Presentation of Queen's Award for Voluntary Service to North Ayrshire Athletics Club

This unique UK national honour was created by Her Majesty to mark the Golden Jubilee in 2002 and to recognise the outstanding contributions made to local communities by groups of volunteers.

It has an equivalent status for voluntary groups as the MBE has for individuals.

North Ayrshire Athletics Club was one of the 193 voluntary groups across the United Kingdom who were recognised with the Award in 2016 and were specifically mentioned for their outstanding work in developing the community through athletics.

The formal presentation of the Award by H M Lord Lieutenant of Ayrshire and Arran, Mr John Duncan, QPM to the Chairman of the Club, Blair Pettigrew took place on Saturday 30th July in Saltcoats Town Hall. Deputy Lieutenant Mrs Evelyn McCann, the Depute Provost and Leader of North Ayrshire Council, Mrs Duncan and the Lord Lieutenant's Cadet as well as many members of the Club and volunteers were present.
