40th Birthday Celebrations, A D Cameron Centre, Largs – 14th July 2018

Following in her father’s footsteps Deputy Lieutenant Jane Evans was Guest of Honour at the 40th Birthday celebrations at the A D Cameron Centre in Largs on 14th July 2018.To mark the event she planted a Ruby Rose in the gardens of the Centre. Jane’s father, who was also a Deputy Lieutenant, was present when Princess Alexandra opened the second phase of the building back in 1980.
The Centre is named after Mr Alexander Douglas Cameron, CBE and JP who during October 1974 considered that a 'Day Centre' should be established for the senior citizens of Largs.  A place where they could meet in comfort, form new friendships, have social activities and organise functions by running their own club.

Various fund raising activities followed and by January 1977 around £6,000 had been raised and after several meetings Cunninghame District Council gave an undertaking that Age Concern could lease the ground which it now occupies.  The original stage 1 building was opened in October 1978 and stage 2 was completed for opening in May 1980 by Princess Alexandra.
To this day it provides a great hub for many of the older members of the community, who drop in on a regular basis for all sorts of activities or even just a cup of tea and a blether.
