Robert Burns Humanitarian Award - 2016

The Lord Lieutenant and Mrs Duncan attended the 2016 Robert Burns Humanitarian Award ceremony at the Brig o' Doon Hotel, Ayr on 21st January 2016. The Lord Lieutenant was also part of the Judging Panel.

This internationally respected honour, is bestowed annually on a group or individual who has shown selflessness and dedication in a bid to save, enrich and improve the lives of others through the protection and promotion of human rights and work to deliver social reform. The 2016 winner was Dr David Nott. The award is supported by South Ayrshire Council and further details are available at http://www.south-ayrshire.gov.uk/burnsaward.

Dr Nott is a volunteer with Medecins Sans Frontieres and the International Red Cross. For more than twenty years, Dr Nott - a Consultant Surgeon in London has given up several months each year to volunteer in war zones throughout the world. He has also established a Foundation to train other medical professionals on how to help in war and natural disaster zones.

The other finalists were; Zannah Bukar Mustapha, and Magnus McFarlane Barrow.
