Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Ayrshire and Arran, Sheriff Iona McDonald has issued the following Press Statement ;

Royal Wedding beckons for Scottish paramedic

A paramedic from the Scottish Ambulance Service is one of a lucky select few from across the UK chosen to attend the forthcoming Royal Wedding.

Martin Galloway and his wife Lynda, from Kilmarnock, will be two of just 2,640 guests invited to attend the happy event at Windsor Castle, London, on the 19 May. Martin has worked for the Scottish Ambulance Service for 20 years and, with his colleagues, has assisted in saving thousands of lives across Ayrshire.

“I’m absolutely delighted to have been picked out to attend; I can’t quite believe it. It’s a real honour but I see it more a tribute to all my friends and colleagues in the Scottish Ambulance Service for their hard work,” he said.

“I will be going to the wedding with my wife Lynda, who also works in health care as a care assistant. We have no idea what to expect but it’s definitely going to be a happy memory that will stay with us for the rest of our lives. We will be able to look back at footage and say ‘we were there’.”

While the future Royal couple – Prince Harry and Meghan Markle– are busy making final plans for the big day, Martin and his wife have also been making their own preparations. “My wife has bought a new dress for the special occasion and I’ve bought a new kilt – I’m keen to represent all my work colleagues and Scotland,” added Martin.

Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Ayrshire and Arran Sheriff Iona McDonald said she was delighted Martin and his wife had been chosen to represent the Service, the County and Scotland.

She added: “Martin is well known across the County and is a highly valued member of our community, so the fact that he is representing us at such a prestigious, historical event is absolutely fantastic. We wish him all the best and hope he comes home with some wonderful stories and perhaps even a few photos and special memories of the day.”
