Presentation of British Empire Medal, Frank McHugh, Dalmellington, - 17th December 2017

Earlier this year Frank McHugh from Dalmellington was recognised by Her Majesty The Queen for his significant contribution to the Scouting Movement and the Community of Dalmellington and was awarded a British Empire Medal. In keeping with the award Frank wanted his Investiture to take place in the Scout Hall in Dalmellington and on Sunday 17th December Frank was joined by over a hundred and twenty friends, family and acquaintances for the ceremony.
Following a number of moving tributes from his family, current Scouts , and the previous District Commissioner , Frank was presented with his Medal by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Ayrshire and Arran, Sheriff Iona McDonald. During the presentation the Lord-Lieutenant spoke of how Frank had been involved with the Scouts for over sixty years, had been recognised with the highest awards possible within the Scouting movement and how he was held in the highest regard by the whole community.
After the presentation Frank said “It is a great honour to receive the British Empire Medal and I would like to thank the Lord-Lieutenant for carrying out the Investiture here in Dalmellington. Dalmellington is where I have lived all of my life and the town means so much to me. I would like to thank my family, friends and everyone at the 33rd Dalmellington Scout Group who have made today special.”
The Lord-Lieutenant added, ”It has been my pleasure to present Mr McHugh with his British Empire Medal. His commitment and dedication to the Scouting Movement and the community of Dalmellington is amazing. Mr McHugh is well respected by everyone who knows him and he is a truly inspirational character.
I only wish that there were more nominations for Honours as there are many people, like Mr McHugh, in our communities throughout Ayrshire and Arran who do so much for others without seeking recognition".
