One Hundredth Birthday, Catherine McDonald, Ayr

The Lord- Lieutenant recently presented Catherine McDonald with a special message from His Majesty The King when she celebrated her 100th birthday. The Provost of South Ayrshire, Cllr Iain Campbell was also present to congratulate Mrs McDonald.. Catherine was born in Lochgoilhead in 1923. She met Neil MacDonald, a native of Tiree, during the war when a fleet of ships were anchored in the loch awaiting instructions. They married soon after the war ended and moved to Ayr in 1954 when Neil became a pilot at Ayr Harbour (he later became harbour master there). They had a son (Alasdair) and a daughter (Fiona).
