New Year's Honours List 2017 - January 2017

The Lord-Lieutenant of Ayrshire and Arran, John Duncan, CVO, QPM, has been recognised by Her Majesty The Queen in the New Year Honours List, published on Friday 30 December 2016. The Lord-Lieutenant was appointed a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO) for his personal service to Her Majesty and to the Royal Family. Following a distinguished career in the Police, Mr Duncan was appointed Lord-Lieutenant in 2006 by Her Majesty The Queen, having previously served as a Deputy Lieutenant since 2001.  He lives in Stewarton.

Mr Duncan said: "I am personally humbled and delighted by my appointment as a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order and would like to send my sincere congratulations to the four others from Ayrshire and Arran who also received awards in the New Year Honours List. I would also like to thank those who nominated them, and recognised the contribution that they had made to our local communities and to society in general."

Professor Paul William Martin. Depute Principal. University of the West of Scotland. For services to Healthcare and Education. (Mauchline, Ayrshire and Arran)

 

Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE)

 

Ranald Mair. Formerly Chief Executive Officer. Scottish Care. For services to Social Work and Social Care. (Stewarton, Ayrshire and Arran)

 

Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE)

 

Mrs Jeanette Mary Jane Hollywood Henderson. Formerly Senior Charge Nurse, Forensic Rehab, Elgin Ward, Ailsa Hospital, NHS Ayrshire and Arran. For services to Healthcare. (Ayr, Ayrshire and Arran)

 

George Powell. Captain. 1st Troon Boys' Brigade. For services to the Boys' Brigade and the community in Ayrshire. (Troon, Ayrshire and Arran)

 

 

The awards will be presented at a later date.

 

The Lord-Lieutenant also remarked: "There are many in towns and villages throughout Ayrshire and Arran who do so much for others and have yet to be recognised.  Therefore, I urge anyone who is aware of any individual they consider worthy of an award to nominate them. It is a relatively easy process and is open to all.
