HRH The Duke of Edinburgh

Lieutenancy of Ayrshire and Arran
Statement by H.M. Lord-Lieutenant of Ayrshire and Arran

HRH The Duke of Edinburgh
10 June 1921 to 9 April 2021

On behalf of the Lieutenancy, H.M. Lord- Lieutenant of Ayrshire and Arran, Sheriff Iona McDonald OBE offers her deepest sympathies to the Royal Family on the death of His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh

His Royal Highness has featured in the life of the nation for many years, as he worked alongside Her Majesty The Queen, supporting her in so many ways during her long and busy reign.

He will also be remembered for his own contributions and, in particular, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme which he instigated in 1956 and which has helped countless young people meet challenges in their lives.

Her Majesty The Queen and all the members of the Royal Family are in our thoughts and prayers at this very sad time.

An online Book of Condolence is now available to capture thoughts and memories of the late Duke, and messages of sympathy to the Royal Family. It can be accessed through the following link

Further details on the funeral arrangements, which will follow Covid guidelines, will be published in due course.
