Appointment of Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Ayrshire and Arran – June 2025

The Lord-Lieutenant of Ayrshire and Arran, Sheriff Iona McDonald OBE is pleased to announce that His Majesty The King has appointed William Stafford as Vice Lord- Lieutenant of Ayrshire and Arran. 
 
William has been a Deputy Lieutenant since 2013.He succeeds Colonel John Dalrymple Hamilton who served as Vice Lord-Lieutenant since 1998 and retired from the role earlier this year.
 
William has lived in Galston, all of his life and has worked across the County at a senior level in local government most recently as Executive Director of Neighbourhood Services in East Ayrshire
 
William has a wealth of experience working across various community-led projects and has had extensive charity involvement with organisations such as Ayrshire Rivers Trust, Loudoun Valley Trust.
 
The Lord-Lieutenant said:” I am grateful for the support and guidance that I have received from John Dalrymple Hamilton since my own appointment as Lord-Lieutenant and look forward to working with William on developing the role and duties of the Lieutenancy.”
 
Commenting on his appointment as Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Ayrshire and Arran, William Stafford said:
“It has been a privilege to represent His Majesty The King, and Her Majesty The Queen before him, as a Deputy Lieutenant. I am proud and humbled to have been appointed as Vice Lord-Lieutenant I look forward to representing The King, and standing in for the Lord-Lieutenant going forward
